How old do you have to be to rent a scooter? top
21 and over, however, we sometimes can accommodate drivers 18 to 21 as long as there is a family member drive along side. ZootScoot Scooter Rental reserves the right to refuse rental to anyone, anytime, for any reason.
Can my kids ride with me? top
Absolutely not! Honda Metropolitans are for 1 adult driver only. Kids can not ride on the back of it, nor in front of you on the seat, or sitting on the deck. You can not attach a child's car seat to any part of the scooter. The Big Ruckus can accommodate a passenger, but the passenger must be able to reach the foot pegs, and wear an adult size helmet. ZootScoot would rather children not ride as passenger on the Big Ruckus, there fore we do not supply child size helmets. Instant loss of deposit if you are reported to have a child on your scooter.
Do I need a motorcycle license? top
Only to rent the Big Ruckus. The Metropolitans are 49cc, there for are considered mopeds in the state of Colorado. You do have to have a valid driver's license to rent from ZootScoot.
Do I ride the scooter on the street? top
Paved road use only, except if going to the Fern Lake Trail head. The scooters are not permitted on any trail, sidewalk, or hike/bike trail around Esters Lake. MAPS
I'm from another country. Can I rent? top
As long as you have a valid INTERNATIONAL DRIVER'S LICENCE. It is described officially as THIS.
Do I have to make reservations? top
No, but if you want to be sure to get a scooter, make those reservations! It's highly recommended for parties of 4 or more and those planning to ride on weekends or holidays. Do make reservations if you are going to use the scooter for multiple days.
Is there insurance for me? top
ZootScoot LLC carries a standard damage liability insurance for each of the scooters which has a deductible of $1,000. More insurance can be purchased if you rent a Big Ruckus. There is no injury insurance available. Check with your insurance for coverage in this scenario. Bottom line, you are responsible for any an all damages that occur to the scooter, even if an Elk trots up to your scooter while you are having lunch and knocks it over.
Can I take the scooter into Rocky Mountain National Park? top
YES! We encourage it! One of the best ways to see the park is by scooter.
How much does it cost to get into the park? top
$10 per scooter.
Can I take my scooter up Trail Ridge Road? top
250cc Big Ruckus? YES!! Ya'll can take it to Denver if you want.
49cc Metropolitan....Absolutely NOT! The gain in altitude is too much for the scooters. Engine failure and break failure are only 2 of the things to worry about if you take these scooters beyond the set boundary. Instant loss of deposit if you are reported by anyone to be out of bounds. Know your map!
Why are there boundaries? This does not pertain to the 250cc Big Ruckus top
Boundaries are in place because there are areas where either the speed limit increases beyond capabilities of scooters, or the grade or altitude exceeds the capabilities of the scooter's engine, drive belt, or breaks. In either case, it is very dangerous. This is such a serious issue, if anyone is reported to be out of bounds, a loss of $500 from your damage deposit will be taken. In 2007 a scooter was wrecked at a total loss, and it happened to be out of bounds.
What if I run out of gas? top
A full tank of gas on the 49cc is good for about 120 miles! In the event that you do need to fill up, it's going to cost under $5.50. Your first tank of gas is on us.
What if it rains while I'm on a scooter? top
This will more than likely happen to you. If it starts to rain, take shelter and note the time. We will freeze your time for rain. It is safer than trying to race back to the booth. If rain persists, carefully make your way back to the booth. All day rain is unusual for this area, so be patient. More than likely it will stop with in 15min to a half hour. If you decide to ride in the rain, we will not freeze your time.
When do the deer turn into elk? top
That would be April 1st every leap year.
