Helmets & Eyewear There is not a helmet law in Colorado, however, we do provide helmets and you may use them for free. You will sign off on the contract that you have been offered this safety equipment. There IS a law in Colorado that states you must wear protective eyewear of some type while driving a motorcycle or a scooter. Sunglasses work, and if you forget yours, we'll loan you a pair for free!

Just like a Bike! If you aren't sure about if you want to, or should, ride a scooter, ask yourself this question: Would I ride a bicycle on these roads? If your answer is no, than I would not advise renting a scooter.

On the other hand, if you would ride a bike on these roads, than a scooter is the perfect choice for you! The scooters are fully automatic, handle very similarly to a bicycle, have brakes up on the handle bars like a bicycle, and, just like a bike, you put both feet on the ground when you come to a stop. Keep in mind that you do not stop as fast, nor start as fast as a car... so have plenty of room to stop and go.

Wildlife More than likely you will come across some sort of wildlife, and more than likely that wildlife will be ELK. Elk, like most other wildlife in this area spook very easily, and an aggressive side to these animals can show up unexpectedly. Elk weigh a lot more than your scooter and you put together. You are not in the shell of a car. BE VERY CAUTIOUS WHEN PASSING. If they are in the road, wait. Take it all in. Enjoy it.

BOUNDARIES Each rider is given a map, shown the bounds, and has opportunity to ask questions about the area. Taking a scooter out of bounds puts you in extreme danger, as well as compromising the integrity of the scooter's engine, brakes, and other components. This is such a serious issue that if you are reported to be out of bounds by a police officer, park ranger, local resident, or anyone else, you will lose $500 of your damage deposit per scooter.

THE SAND Sand, or gravel, is simply part of the terrain here. It washes into the roads after rains, it's all over the sides of the roads, and it gets kicked up everywhere. Just like a bike, a scooter will slide very easily on the sand if you turn sharply or stop abruptly. Mainly, don't speed!! A blind turn with some sand sprinkled on top can lead to 300lbs of scooter sliding out from under you. Slow down!

Your safety Your safety is our main concern. As long as you take your time, be aware of your surroundings, and keep your scooter under control, you will have an experience in Rocky Mountain National Park / Estes Park that you will never forget. All riders are encouraged to bring personal gear with them. Advised to wear long pants, closed toe shoes, long sleeves, and all other safety gear for motorcycles. And finally, advised to wear the helmet, offered to you by ZootScoot Scooter Rental , for free.
